IN A NUTSHELL
The TDI DPV Cave Diver Course expands your cave diving capabilities by integrating Diver Propulsion Vehicles (DPVs) for increased range and efficiency. Using a DPV allows for longer penetrations while conserving gas and reducing exertion, but it also introduces new challenges in navigation, team coordination, and emergency management.
This course refines your ability to control and maneuver a DPV in an overhead environment, handle failures, and manage complex dive planning. You'll learn to optimize propulsion techniques, maintain awareness at higher speeds, and develop contingency plans for DPV malfunctions.
In essence, the TDI DPV Cave Diver Course equips divers with the skills and knowledge to safely extend their cave explorations using DPVs, preparing them for more advanced and demanding dives in overhead environments.
PRE-REQUISITES
Students must be 18 years old, and:

certified as a TDI Nitrox Diver (or equivalent)

certified as a TDI Stage Cave Diver (or equivalent)

have a minimum of 100 logged cave dives in the same configuration used for the course
SUBJECT AREAS
During our TDI DPV Cave Diver Course, we will focus on the following aspects (on top of reviewing everything else from previous levels): Underwater: - mastering DPV control, speed management, and maneuvering - effective team positioning and communication while using DPVs - advanced navigation with DPVs, including jumps and gaps - gas management strategies adapted for DPV use - emergency procedures: DPV failures, entanglements, and gas-sharing while using a DPV - situational awareness and maintaining control at higher speeds - DPV towing techniques in case of failure On land: Land drills and simulations of procedures - DPV setup and pre-dive checks Briefings and debriefings - all aspects and skills covered during the course Whiteboard presentations and discussions - handling DPV malfunctions and emergency scenarios - towing and assisting a teammate with a failed DPV - handling a runaway DPV - extended range planning and gas consumption for DPV dives - risk assessment and mitigation for DPV cave diving - psychological and physiological factors of long-range DPV use - stress management and emergency decision-making - impact on the cave environment and conservation considerations

Higher speeds and extended range introduce new challenges, requiring heightened situational awareness, precise control, and quick decision-making. Divers must be prepared to handle emergencies such as equipment malfunctions, lost visibility, and out-of-gas scenarios while managing a DPV. COURSE DURATION
The TDI DPV Cave Diver Course has a duration of 5 days. Divers who have not trained with CDT Mexico at previous levels must complete a day of review for a skills assessment. This also applies if: - You have not dived the previous level in over 3 months. - Your previous course with us was more than 12 months ago.
