TDI ADVANCED NITROX &
DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES DIVER COURSE

DURATION

5 days

IN A NUTSHELL

The TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures (aka ANDP)  combined course is the gateway to extended-range diving, teaching you how to safely manage accelerated decompression using high-oxygen gas mixes.

Advanced Nitrox expands your knowledge of enriched air, refining buoyancy, gas management, and emergency procedures in the column of water, while Decompression Procedures introduces planned staged decompression diving to a max depth of 45m/150ft.

You'll master equipment setup, gas switching, and decompression strategies, gaining the skills to execute technical dives precisely and confidently. This is the foundation for deeper, more complex diving—whether you're heading toward advanced wrecks, deep reefs, or technical cave diving.

PRE-REQUISITES

Students must be 18 years old, and:

  • certified as a TDI Intro to Tech diver (or equivalent or proven experience), if training in a backmount configuration

  • certified as a TDI Sidemount diver (or equivalent or proven experience), if training in a sidemount configuration

  • certified as a TDI Nitrox diver (or equivalent)

  • have a minimum of 50 logged dives

SUBJECT AREAS

During our TDI Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures (ANDP) course, we will focus on the following aspects (on top of reviewing everything else from previous levels): Underwater: - Refining fundamental skills for technical diving - Advanced buoyancy control, trim, and propulsion with stage cylinders - Gas switching procedures and verification protocols - Proper positioning and control during decompression stops - Deployment and use of a DSMB/lift bag for free-floating decompression - Handling multiple gas mixtures and switching at designated depths - Emergency gas-sharing and regulator failure management - Problem-solving in a decompression environment: gas loss, valve failures, omitted deco stops On Land: Land drills and simulations of procedures: - Gas analysis, labeling, and marking of decompression gases - Dive planning and contingency planning (gas loss, extended decompression, omitted stops) - Team-based gas matching and decompression schedule verification - Proper stage cylinder rigging and gas switch protocols Briefings and debriefings: - Comprehensive review of all aspects and skills Whiteboard presentations and discussions: - Decompression theory: bubble mechanics, ascent rates, and off-gassing strategies - Physiological considerations: oxygen toxicity, COâ‚‚ management, hypoxia risks - Psychological aspects: stress management, task loading, decision-making under pressure - Dive computer vs. tables: different decompression models and their applications This course will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to safely conduct planned decompression dives, forming the foundation for more advanced technical diving disciplines.

MEET NEW CHALLENGES

As dives extend beyond no-decompression limits, new challenges emerge—task loading increases, gas management becomes more critical, and decompression obligations demand precise execution. Managing multiple gas mixtures and executing controlled ascents with staged decompression require heightened situational awareness and disciplined buoyancy control. Diving deeper and longer means greater exposure to physiological stressors such as oxygen toxicity, inert gas narcosis, and CO₂ buildup. The ability to stay composed and execute emergency procedures—such as gas loss, omitted decompression, or equipment failures—is crucial. The TDI Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures course prepares you for these challenges, refining your skills in controlled ascent strategies, gas switching protocols, and contingency planning. With a focus on efficiency, precision, and problem-solving, you’ll develop the confidence to execute technical dives safely and effectively.

COMBINED COURSES

The TDI Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures Diver Course has a duration of 5 days (and a minimum of 6 dives). You are a Nitrox + Sidemount and/or Intro to Tech diver from a recognized agency: TDI ANDP = 5 days You are a Nitrox diver and wish to train in backmount configuration: TDI Intro to Tech + TDI ANDP = 8 days You are a Nitrox diver and wish to train in sidemount configuration: TDI Sidemount + TDI ANDP = 9 days You start from scratch, and wish to train in backmount configuration: TDI Nitrox + TDI Intro to Tech + TDI ANDP = 9 days You start from scratch, and wish to train in sidemount configuration: TDI Nitrox + TDI Sidemount + TDI ANDP = 10 days Divers who have not trained with CDT Mexico at previous levels must complete a day of review for a skills assessment. This also applies if: - You have not dived the previous level in over 3 months. - Your previous course with us was more than 12 months ago.
