cenote DOS OJOS – THE PIT

dive with us & discover the mayan cenotes

Also in the Dos Ojos cave system, but further in the jungle, The Pit is a dwell of light in the middle of the wilderness and one of the very highlights of cavern diving. It is the deepest of the Quintana Roo caves discovered so far, with some far passages at 130m of depth! The first part, where the cavern tour takes place, goes down to 30m trough two haloclines. The descent is the huge curtain of light is amazing and leads straight down to a thick white cloud of hydrogen sulfite, due to the decay of organic material. Divers get to see old animal remains and will return to the surface spiraling up along the wall of this gigantic space, under a ceiling covered with thousands of several meters long white stalactites, heading back the incredible stairway to heaven of light beams. This dive is just unreal and people from around the World name it their best dive ever. A good buoyancy control is necessary to avoid free falls, and an advanced certification is mandatory to go the bottom of the cavern entrance at 30m depth.
